Azatoth – Carnal Lust of Blasphemy

Release Date: 21st August 2026||Genre: Death Metal/Black Metal||Label: Extremely Rotten Productions

Putrid Finnish death metal, blackened menace and enough gore to wake something ancient.

Azatoth’s press release begins with “From the hellish landscapes of southern Finland…”, yet with the opening chords of Flooding Human Remains, this statement seems redundant. Carnal Lust of Blasphemy is new-wave Finnish blackened death metal through and through; the imitators are destined for diet-DM or wish they were Azatoth.

As a debut full-length, this eight-track abomination is unreserved, fetid blasphemy, taking you on a trip through the visceral hellscapes of the Tuonela underworld.

Summoned in the darkness of The Juvanmalmi Crypt over four long, agonising months in 2024, Azatoth’s latest offering crawls from the grave, dripping in gore. Since 2020, their self-described Putrid Death Metal Chaos has been rotting away in the Finnish underground, unleashing decapitating guitars, bone-crushing bass and grinding blast beats in a putrid collision of old-school Finnish death metal, ’90s American death-grind and bestial black metal. Even the band’s line-up sounds like a discarded horror-film cast list — J. “Nuclear Lucifer” Das on bass and growls, D. “Chainsaw” Gamache on guitar and sewer growls, R. “Bogman” Levo on guitar and J. “Godvomit” Hämäläinen behind the kit. Steeped in the nightmarish dread of Hellraiser, The Thing and vintage zombie cinema, the result feels less like a tribute than a fresh excavation from some particularly diseased corner of the Finnish underground.

The album festers, scratching at the inner ear with utter disregard, but it’s on the slightly longer tracks, particularly midway point Sulfuric Paths To Agony, that my interest really spikes. Here, the blackened elements cloud rather than eclipse the hefty death-metal chokehold, deepening the menace without ever loosening its grip.

And with that, I’ll let Azatoth have the final word – they’ve summed it up better than I could: “This is putrid fucking death metal chaos!”
