Officially formed in 2023, murmurs of the project echo much further back. Both Anderssons have been fixtures of Stockholm’s metal scene since teenagers, sharing stages and honing their craft in bands such as Seas of Years and Astrophobos before becoming creative partners. Those years forge the musical identity that now reaches us in its most potent form through Grey Shores.

Composed and recorded over three years, the album is less a sudden debut and more the culmination of years of musical experience. A crafted vessel, sculpted in mutual desire to fuse tenderness with extremity into something cohesive, something refined. Mixed and mastered by Jari Lindholm (Enshine, Exgenesis, Seas of Years), its sophistication and maturity run far deeper than a debut has any right to.

Sights of Woe displays this intent through shifting strata of sound, accentuating the layered terrain that Grey Shores inhabit. Vilhelm’s atmospheric and post-rock background provides melody and depth, while Martin brings the harsher edge that anchors the sound. Echoes of Dissection, Summoning, Katatonia and Rotting Christ are woven into this fabric, but never feel confined by influences, with slower paced track In the Pale Light, sharing rays with Opeth or Alcest. Instead, these touchstones become part of something broader; familiar enough to offer a point of reference yet reshaped into a sound that feels distinctly their own.

Black metal shrieks collide with ethereal choirs and fragile clean vocals, creating tension between aggression and vulnerability. The record lulls you into calm waters, adrift in false safety with acoustic passages, haunting E-Bow melodies and delicate guitars, only to hurl you into crashing waves of tremolo-picked riffs and furious vocals. That same pull between serenity and devastation runs through its themes of existentialism, loss, hopelessness and impending apocalypse.

Grey Shores strike a remarkable balance between beauty and devastation, introspection and fury, emerging as a compelling new voice in atmospheric black metal.
