The Templistiks, from Aberdeen, are a strange crew, musically speaking. They offer up a melange of heavy, and heavy-adjacent styles. But what flavours go into their peculiar musical brew?

We see genre as a playground, not a box. But we keep to having heavy roots” they unveil.

The recipe for the Tempilstiks sound includes merging heavy rock attitude with many sub genres ranging from metal, alt rock, punk, reggae, among many more genres with future songs we’ve been working on. Heavy rock, edging into metal would be the most frequent/familiar sound.

However, we love to experiment with different genres. I would say our reggae rock track Market Street which releases a day before our heat (27/02/26) would be the least expected. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it! Once people hear our EP (which will be released in the very near future), we think people will be surprised with the range of sounds we play around with.

Their latest single, Number 1, offers up an introductory lesson to ease listeners into the Templistiks world.

The band’s Andy Robertson says: “Number 1 all started at a jam when our guitarist (Ross Johnston) started playing a riff and I felt an energy from what he was playing. That same night he played the riff, I wrote the lyrics and the song came to be Number 1. When it comes to writing music, between the four of us it just feels like an easy, natural process. Things seem to flow and before you know it, we’re working on the next track.

But coming back to Number 1, it is a defiant rock anthem about self-worth and blocking out outside noise. I would say it is built around a raw heavy riff, thunderous beating drums, a solid bassline, confrontational lyrics and an unapologetic attitude. I feel it captures the moment you stop trying to please everyone else and start choosing yourself. When it’s time to make a stand and put yourself first.

As they move to the future, The Templistiks state: “We have some exciting plans for 2026!

We had originally planned to release our first EP however, that has now turned into a mini album, and we’re super excited about it! We will be announcing more about that in the very near future so keep your eyes peeled. We are also currently discussing plans to do our first tour later in the year.
