This year has seen a significant upsurge in new bands. With barely a year in activity, alternative metallers, Stop The Suns From Setting are another making rapid moves. They are taking big strides by stacking some straightforward goals.
“We got the ball rolling with our band goals right from the start by recording and releasing our first two singles as soon as we felt they were ready.” they say.
“Establishing a strong foundation early on was really important to us, so we focused on building a portfolio of music that we could confidently showcase to promoters and venues. After months of preparation, and once we knew we had a solid 30-minute live set, we did our research and began reaching out to local venues and promoters so we could start playing live. In our first year as a band, we managed to play shows at several of our goal venues, including SWG3 Poetry Club, Audio, Garage Attic, and King Tut’s. Two of our favourite venues we’ve played so far are Audio and Garage Attic; the atmosphere and the crowds at both were incredible, and we genuinely felt at home playing there.“
They’ve not been hanging around off-stage either, with four singles now already out in the wild. Expanding on what they are about, and how they tie together, the band add:
“Our earliest tracks followed a more structured writing process. Our guitarist, Chris, would initially write the songs as instrumentals, after which our vocalist, Kels, would develop the lyrics and vocal melodies, and our drummer, Panka, would add her own distinctive drum style to bring everything together. At the time, each of us came from slightly different musical backgrounds and sub-genres, and those individual tastes naturally influenced how we approached our parts.“
“As we’ve grown as a band, that diversity of influences has become one of our biggest strengths.“
“With our most recent singles, we now come together for full writing sessions and work collaboratively on every part of the song from the start. This is a process we much prefer, as it allows our individual styles and sub-genre influences to blend more organically. Through that collaboration, we feel we’ve found a sound that truly represents us, a more cohesive, confident, and unique style that feels unmistakably our own. Our first four singles were a really fun and creatively fulfilling process overall. We enjoy writing about a wide range of topics and often draw inspiration from fictional stories as well as real experiences.”
“Our debut single, Rebirth, was written about a fictional character from a fantasy novel and is told from a first-person perspective, exploring the struggles that the character faces throughout the story. Our second single, Chest Cavity, focuses on being trapped in a relationship where you still love someone who is constantly hurting you, while keeping up appearances so that no one else sees what you’re going through. The Consequence is about seeing someone’s true colours, letting them go, and dealing with the anger that comes with that realisation.“
Their latest single, No Crown, arrived just this month, along with a notably professional video. It also comes with a strong message.
“No Crown is a very empowering track about rejecting other people’s expectations and being unapologetically yourself. It’s our favourite release so far because of how strongly we connect with its message.”
“Making the No Crown video was so much fun for us. As our first-ever music video, we wanted to create something memorable and visually striking. The video was made on a tight budget with a lot of help from friends, one of whom managed to find us a hidden location to film in, while another helped with directing and editing. We filmed in a warehouse-style space that instantly stood out to us because of its eerie atmosphere, which really matched the tone of the song. Adding the mannequins helped push that unsettling, creepy edge even further. A lot of the video was very DIY. We used our own ring lights, and the entire video was filmed on an iPhone, which added to the raw and authentic feel we were aiming for.“
“We want the audience to take away a sense of confidence and self-belief from the video,” they continue.
“The mannequins represent conformity and the pressure to fit into expectations or roles that don’t feel authentic, while No Crown is about breaking away from that and choosing to be yourself without worrying about other people’s opinions. At the same time, the DIY nature of the video reflects that message, showing that you don’t need big budgets or perfect conditions to create something meaningful. It’s about trusting your vision and just going for it.“
As for their future plans, they are are fittingly down to Earth:
“In 2026, we would like to release more singles and play bigger stages.” Sounds like we will be steadily hearing more from the STSFS camp…
