Killscythe may be a new band, but their credentials go back a bit into the past of the Scottish scene. With members previously serving in acts such as Ifreann and Blackened Ritual, they know their locales, especially Perth.

Guitaist Andrew Muller reminisces “The Perth scene back in the 2000’s was some of our favourite times being in a band.

The Corinna in Perth had a dedicated metal scene where we played some of our first gigs and before that there was Barcode. I remember the deal was you got a crate of beer for playing and you could just go round the back of the bar to help yourself. This made for some really messy and fun nights of gigs. I really miss having a focal point for metal heads in Perth. With it being through the back room at the Corinna it was like our little safe haven. I remember Perth bands like Threshold Sicks, Nerrus Kor, Same Jane, all playing every other weekend. At one point I think I had a stack of about 50 posters of Perth gigs. I remember both Paul and Rockwell putting on gigs and hosting events and it was some of the most fun I’ve had in a band.

They recently returned the The Fair City for their first hometown headliner, at The Twa Tams.

On coming home, the band say: “Since we have started as band we have been wanting to play a hometown show at the Twa Tams and getting to do this as our third ever show as well as a headline set really was a surreal experience. Twa Tams has been a staple as a music venue for Perth and this was evident by how many came, moshed out and supported not just us but all the bands that night. We played with both Visha and The Goatboy, who both provided great sets and really got the crowd energised for the night. It was a great night for local Perth metal.

Off-stage, they are currently working on a new EP, the follow up to their 2-track 2025 release. “Musically I’ve always wanted to do something a little bit different this time round.” Explains Muller.

We have songs in different keys with different flavours. I don’t think there’s one song in E which is quite a rare thing in thrash metal. I think it’s helped each song have its own identity and also gives the vocals more to latch on to in putting melodies together. I’ve tried to borrow from 70’s bands like Toto and Boston where there isn’t always a stand out guitar solo but there’s enough melodic leads to satisfy. I think the main thing is that it’s not just riffs with vocals, it should sound like a song and I think we’ve achieved that on this EP. Lyrically, we are blessed to have a vocalist like Gil. He writes stories inspired by historical events, H.P. Lovecraft stories, and video games. I think you will love singing along to these songs.
