Stepping out of their local area, to the unlikely metal mecca of Kirkcaldy, for M2TM, are Glasgow heavies, Jorogumo. The name comes from the Japanese for “binding bride” or “whore-spider.” Sounds like there might be a story there…

“The name comes from Japanese folklore…” they concur,

“…about a creature – a yokai – that transforms from a woman into a spider, luring men in before devouring them. We threw around a few different names before settling on that. It felt fairly unique as far as band names go, and the shape-shifting nature of the origin story seemed to fit well with the music we were making, in that we have a bit of an unintentional genre spanning sound.“

Just last October, the band issued their latest album, Babylon. It was recorded with Kevin Hare at Deep Storm Studios (King Witch, Cwfen, Solar Sons).

“Stressful but rewarding!” they state.

“It was overall pretty good, but we could maybe have been a bit more strict with ourselves in terms of just getting in there and getting it done. It was a glorious set up as far as the studio situation goes, but it maybe encouraged us to be a bit more laid back than we could’ve been.“

“Personally i loathe the whole recording process,” says frontman Raoul James, “and vocals were the final thing laid down, so as much as i enjoyed seeing everyone else do their parts, and the album coming together, it was always looming over me that eventually it would be my turn. So finally the vocal session was condensed into three days that i was glad to come out the other side of without burning the place down. We’re incredibly proud of the final result though.“

As for their upcoming plans, it sounds like they’re headed into a busy year. They say they are:

“Playing an all-dayer in Aberdeen called Granite Tomb fest, supporting Ni (jazzy, prog metal guys) at Attic promoted by the nice guys at Core and playing our first charity gig at Classic Grand for Metal Musicians supporting Ukraine. We are also really keen to play in the North of England for the first time and are looking for gigs there currently.“
