Tapping into the roots of heavy music, Hot Blooded Reptiles deal in old school and hard rock. The North East seems to be brewing up a fresh batch in this genre (alongside its growing extreme metal scene), but how does it sit in the grander scheme?

“We see traditional hard rock and metal in the modern scene as very relevant and growing.” say the band. “We arrived at our style through many influences I think we all agree we like all good musical genres. We wouldn’t say we are locked into any specific genre because some of our music can fit into many styles and we like to think we got something to everyone’s taste.“

They continue: “Since some of the bigger bands like Guns ‘n Roses and Metallica brought this genre into the mainstream in the 1990’s and 2000’s rock and metal band can now sell out huge stadium shows in any city. Social media like TikTok ect..has also played its part, bringing hard rock and metal to younger audiences. We think it has also encouraged people to get involved at a local level, after all there is nothing better than seeing a live band.“

And they are right. Communities in their area are seeing a fresh wave of relationships in their genre. For example, HBR list playing Hedge Fest II amongst their favourite moments to date.

“Hedge fest is an annual charity gig dedicated to the memory of a local musician who passed away at a young age from ill health.”

“They run the shows each year in memory of him and to raise money for the charities that support people with the same illness as well as others. So it’s for a very good cause and a good way to bring lots of local musicians together in a one day festival. It was good to be part of it for us because it’s for a good cause as so many of us are affected by illness like cancer either directly or through ones we love.“

Off stage, the band have been busy lining up their recorded efforts. With an album in the works, they dropped their single, Fallen Angel, just last month, closing off a productive 2025.

“Fallen angel is basically a love story, with a kinda gothic feel to it.” they comment on the track.

“Inspiration is a very hard thing to really point to specifically, as it comes in many ways and from many sources. What we would like people to take from the track, like any other song that we do, is to feel something that resonates with them because music isn’t just about the sound it’s very much about how it makes you feel. It’s all about getting in touch with our emotions through music. “

“The new album we are currently working on is our second, so we are aiming to up the ante as much as possible. We have learned a lot from our previous recordings, as well as from playing them live, so we are confident it’s going to have a nice kick to it as well as some surprise tracks.“
