Nestled away in the North East of Scotland, Gallowgate are a fairly new band. They deal in some pretty solid, heavy stuff, circling the spheres of thrash, doom, and groove metal (apparently, they do a dead-on cover of Power Trip‘s Executioner’s Tax). However, they’re no young pups.

We’re all middle aged family guys, so just being able to play and connect whenever we can. The therapy of creatively expressing, we’re grateful for any opportunity we get.” state the band, when asked about their highlights to date.

Gallowgate started in early 2024.”

“David (drums) spent the 2010s playing in a variety of punk bands (Dross/Needleman/Das McManus/Bird Law). After a few years out of the game he wanted to make something noisier and put out a call to arms which Chris W (guitar/vocals) answered. They were quickly joined by Fraser (bass/backing vocals) with Chris K (guitar) rounding things out in early 2025.

In that time, they’ve played with quite a range of bands, in terms of style. Recently supported Northern death metallers, Penny Coffin, along with Dissolving Entity. But what are the pros and cons of these heavier bills, versus keep things mixed up?

It was a hot crowd for the Penny Coffin gig so there’s definitely enough of an appetite for an evening of heavy stuff to justify it. That said, it’s always worth having different flavours of heavy to stop crowd fatigue from setting in. In that case we were the thrash palette cleanser before the fantastic tech death onslaught.

As for the future, will we be seeing Gallows on stages outside of the Aberdeenshire area any time soon?

Next up for us is opening things up for the Tonehenge all dayer at Tunnels in Aberdeen on February 21st. We’re open to getting out and about for gigs in other parts of the country but there are no plans yet.

Being in the early stages, they have yet to release any recorded work, so you’ll have to rely on short social media clips for a preview. 2026 could change that, though, as the band say “We also have some recording planned for the first quarter, so keep an ear out! The aim is to hit the studio for recording an EP after Tonehenge which will hopefully help to open some doors!” Other than that, their plan is to: “Continue to expand our song list (we have a plethora of riffs to sort through and put together!).
