Formed in Glasgow just last year, Evil Deeds offer sure fire appeal to thrash heads. To date, they have issued two blood-drenched singles; Skinwalker and Blood Red Blade. Both display an obvious love of horror.
“I had always wanted to make films growing up…” says vocalist, Cameron MacLean.
“…and being a fan of horror, Sam Raimi and the Evil Dead films were always hugely inspiring to me. The fact that they were able to create these films with essentially no studio support, entirely independently and just were constantly so creative while working on such a low budget was so cool. A lot of our visuals we use for the band are mostly inspired by films around the 70s and early 80s, stuff like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and George Romero’s Living Dead films. But we don’t strictly stick to that era, Skinwalker’s music video was inspired by found footage films like V/H/S and Blair Witch Project and we’ve made other material that’s based off of horror comics and video games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.“
When asked for a breakdown of the tracks, though, it quickly becomes apparent that there is more to it than schlock and gore.
“Skinwalker came about when we first started Evil Deeds in 2024. We had been recently getting into some doom metal bands and playing around with riff ideas, and the main riff for the song quickly came to be. Soon after, a demo was made and when we decided to turn it into something official, we stuck with the horror theme of the band and wrote the lyrics to match the tone of the song.“
“Blood Red Blade was written at a time when we only had about two or three songs, we were just getting lyrics written for them and we struggled to fit anything to what we had already written. We were already working on the demo for it at the time and decided that we were going to try and complete the entire song with lyrics before bringing it into practice . The lyrics were inspired by a couple different things, but the general idea was always about making the right decision despite it being difficult and what others may think of you for it.“
They have been moving quite quickly at getting this music out there. It doesn’t seem like they have any plans to rush, but future recording plans are already in the works.
“We aim to take our time and do things right. The singles out now were written, recorded and mixed entirely by the band, we have really tried to keep that independent ethos from a lot of our horror inspirations . But we write a lot of music and so have a few more singles coming soon along with an album currently in the recording process, there’s even songs written for potential future releases. We believe you have to sit with songs for a while to see what you think after a few months before committing to it, and playing these songs live in front of an audience really helps to figure out what resonates with people before we start releasing songs.“
Hopefully, then, it won’t be long until that full-length hits. Keep your eyes peeled. (Not literally…)
