Bruxa are very new as a band. The Edinburgh Heat of this year’s M2TM will actually be their first live appearance. However, they are no strangers to the stage or the scene.
“Ewan and Fil were former band members of Marobaki, a prog metal adjacent band” they say.
“Will is a session player outside of Bruxa but his other band is this really cool pop punk band called Unspeakable Mondays. Mik used to play in a indie band from years back but currently has a black metal solo project called Katarsis. Lewis most recently was in Liquid Fear as their bassist but sadly the band dissolved. Despite the difference in influences, we also seem to think on the same wavelength which all our oddities and the differences that makes it completely unique from anything we have done before“
Still, despite that collective experience, making your first show M2TM may seem a bold move. How have they been preparing for it?
“Preparing? We were meant to be organised? No one told me band life was all about that...” exclaims Ewan.
“Well, we have been busy writing for a long time now so we are quite familiar with the set. At the moment, it’s just been refining and adding our own little pieces of our personalities in the music.“
By way of example, they offer: “Black Canvas is a song which faces the idea of essentially facing existential dread, that which stems from Lovecraft type horror. The lyrical inspiration of that song comes from the game Iron Lung, pure isolation with pure uneasiness. Burnt Offering on the other hand is a song that focuses a lot on religious fanatics and how far one’s blindness to the situation can turn deadly very quickly.“
