Despite being very fresh, Alternate Future deliver a very mature mash of djent and alt metal, with a hint of funk. As this is being written they’ve yet to release any of it publicly, but you might have caught them live in the capital.

It really started with us just giving things a try.” they say.

We went up for an open mic night to see how our ideas would work live, and at that point we didn’t even have a vocalist yet. We played an instrumental set, kept things relaxed, and honestly didn’t expect much from it. But a few people came up afterwards, said they liked what we were doing, and that small bit of encouragement meant a lot. From there, things grew slowly and naturally. Some of the people who saw us at that open mic mentioned us to others, and that eventually led to us being invited to play with Fallen Ashes and a few other local bands. We were genuinely surprised, because we still had no music out, but the word of mouth helped us more than we ever expected.

Aside from djent and metalcore, it seems like there are few other things going on in their sound. But what are those outside-the-box influences?

As a band, we tend to listen to anything that catches our interest in a weird or unexpected way.” they expand.

If something feels different from the usual or takes an unpredictable turn, it usually ends up inspiring us. Our influences stretch across metalcore, progressive metal, djent and some thall and we all have a lot of love for bands like Periphery and Tesseract, they’ve shaped so much of the genre and set the bar for what modern heavy music can be, but you can definitely spot a blink to other bands too. At the same time, we’re not trying to sound like anyone, we’re slowly finding our own voice simply playing what we like to play.

Beyond that, our tastes go in all sorts of directions. Some of us are into jazz, someone else loves folk, someone classical and opera too, but we all appreciate a good djenty moment when it hits. Each of us brings our own background and preferences into the writing process, and you can hear those individual influences in the parts we play. It’s not something we force, it just naturally blends into what becomes the sound of Alternate Future.

As mentioned above, AF have yet to unleash any recorded works on the world – but the wheels are in motion..

We’ve actually recorded a few tracks already,” they tell “but we’re not fully satisfied with the results yet. We know the sound we’re capable of, and we want our first release to reflect that 100%. So instead of rushing anything out, we’re taking the time to refine things until we’re genuinely happy with every detail. Our first single will be one of the songs we’re playing live. We won’t spoil which one it is, though. You’ll have to listen closely and take a guess. What we can say is that it represents where Alternate Future is right now, and it’s a good hint of what’s coming next.
